3. Taribo West

A theme of this collection has clearly been ‘why use one bad idea on your head, when more will do?’ With that in mind, come on down, Taribo West.

Here is a player who has played at two World Cups, won Olympic gold and picked up the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan (alongside fellow hairstyle legend Ronaldo) in 1998. Yet it says a lot that the second line of his Wikipedia biography is the following: “He is best remembered for his various unusual and colourful hairstyles.”

Shouldn’t he be remembered for a successful career? Not when his haircut is this weird, no.

There’s no shame in shaving your head once your hairline starts to recede. The problem here is that West didn’t do his whole head. No, what we have here is a man who has shaved off most of his hair, but braided the rest and dyed it green. And then tied it in knots or a ponytail where appropriate. Believe me when I say there is nowhere where this is appropriate.

Much like fellow hair flop Djibril Cisse, Taribo West did change the color of his hair when it suited him, and he also did so in the north east of England. The Nigerian gets a bonus point for choosing the same color for both hair and shirt, though, as he had red hair while playing for Middlesbrough.

He does also appear to have resolved his hair issues these days too, though the fashion police will still be after him for that waistcoat.
