Cavaliers have been unable to reach Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving hasn’t been speaking with the Cavaliers since his trade demands were leaked to the media last week.

A bizarre offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers is continuing to head off the rails. It has been reported by Jason Lloyd at The Athletic that the Cavs can not reach their star point guard Kyrie Irving.

Jason Lloyd shared that Cavaliers management is feeling the déjà vu of possibly losing a star player all over again.

"Therein lies at least one huge difference between now and 2010: James is still helping to recruit players to Cleveland. He was instrumental in swaying Derrick Rose and Jeff Green in recent weeks. He was unreachable during the summer of 2010, something Irving is now. The Cavs have unsuccessfully tried to contact Irving, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic, but he is not talking to anyone from the organization.He has said enough already."

Irving made headlines last week when it broke that he had requested a trade out of Cleveland. The timing did seem odd and multiple reports have been surfacing about when the request was actually made and how it got into the hands of the media.

The Cavaliers management has remained non-committal to a Kyrie trade.  In their first press appearance since the demand, new general manger Koby Altman stated:

"“Kyrie is a tremendous player. He has made great contributions to this franchise and we enjoy him as a player. We’re going to keep this stuff in house in terms of what was said in those meetings, but he continues to be a core piece of who we are and what we do.”"

Irving has made it clear that he has four preferred destinations; Minnesota, Miami, New York and San Antonio. Unfortunately for him, he has little say over where he actually ends up. Kyrie still has two years left on the deal he signed in 2014.

Irving has stated that he would like to be the number one option which makes two of his requested teams odd fits — San Antonio and Minnesota, where he would share the spotlight and offense with Kawhi Leonard or Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler.. He would clearly be the lead guy in both New York and Miami, assuming Goran Dragic or Carmelo Anthony went to the Cavaliers in a trade.
