Broncos rumors: Devontae Booker out 6-8 weeks
Denver Broncos’ running back Devontae Booker is out 6-8 weeks with a wrist injury.
Devontae Booker will head to the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp with the Broncos, adding further confusion to an inconsistent offense. After signing oft-injured Jamaal Charles to share the backfield with C.J. Anderson, Denver’s offense seemed like it could at least be competitive on the ground with a more traditional committee of backs.
Now, with Booker hurt, there are real question marks in the Mile High City. The offense already has ample issues including a leaky offensive line, no sure thing at tight end and a quarterback controversy between Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. Last year, Denver was near the bottom in almost every major offensive category. The Broncos will need to find some consistency before they can get back to the level they were at even two years ago.
Booker’s injury not the only problem facing Denver’s running back corps. Pro Football Focus had neither Anderson, nor Booker in the top-20 pass blocking running backs for last season, and Charles’ latest ranking has him 30th out of 62 backs.

"Now entering his 10th season, Charles has been limited to just eight games over the past two seasons due to knee issues, but is one of the most elusive backs when healthy as he sported a 55.8 elusive rating in 2014, which would have been good for fifth in 2016."
The question of consistency again arises in Denver. If Charles comes back, Denver’s running game is right back where it started. The Broncos have revamped the line by signing Ronald Leary and drafting Garret Bolles in the first round of the draft this spring, but the major question marks remain. If Denver can’t fix its running game, and the combination of Siemian and Lynch continues to idle rather than grow, it becomes difficult to see anything other than problems for the Broncos moving forward.
