New York Mets

The New York Mets’ Mount Rushmore boasts two of the most electric pitchers to hit the northeast and two of the best hitters as well.

Tom Seaver is by a wide margin the most accomplished player in Mets history. He is the franchise leader in pitcher’s bWAR, wins, ERA, WHIP, games started, strikeouts, innings pitched and shutouts. With the Mets, he won three Cy Young Awards and led the league in ERA three times. Seaver led the 1969 team to a World Series championship.

Dwight “Doc” Gooden is perhaps best known for his drug use. But to Mets fans, he’ll always be “Dr. K”. Gooden won the Rookie of the Year in 1984, following that performance with a Cy Young in 1985. He had a microscopic ERA of 1.53 that season in 276 2/3 innings. Gooden played a huge role in helping the Mets win the 1986 World Series.

Mike Piazza was brought in to New York to help the Mets win a World Series. They never accomplished that goal with him, but it sure wasn’t from a lack of trying. With the Mets, Piazza won five Silver Slugger awards. He has the highest slugging percentage in franchise history.

David Wright sadly broke down due to injuries. But he’s arguably the best position player in history. Wright owns the highest bWAR of any Mets position player and leads the franchise in runs scored and hits.

Honorable mentions: John Franco is the best reliever in team history. Darryl Strawberry could have been a Hall of Famer but had drug issues, much like Gooden.
