Tennessee Titans: WR Corey Davis signs rookie contract

Corey Davis, the fifth-overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft is the last first-round pick to sign his rookie deal.

The Tennessee Titans have finally signed their first-round pick Corey Davis to his rookie contract, a four-year deal worth $25.394 million according to Spotrac. Davis was the last first-round pick from this year’s draft to sign with his team, but it looks like there won’t be any hold out situations this year.

The focus of the Titans offseason was giving Marcus Mariota weapons at receiver, and Davis is the crowning jewel of that group. With the fifth-overall pick, general manager Jon Robinson got who he considered the best wide receiver in the draft, and looking at his (limited) track record, his feelings are to be trusted.

Despite finishing in the top half of the league in both yards and points per game, the Titans pass offense ranked 25th. That shouldn’t happen with a quarterback like Mariota at the helm. Last years group of receivers held the offense back, but that should no longer be the case.

Rishard Matthews, Tajae Sharpe, and Kendall Wright were the Titans best three pass catchers outside of Delanie Walker last year. This year, it will be Matthews, Davis and Eric Decker. That’s a massive upgrade for one offseason.

It may be too early to crown Davis the next big thing, but there’s no shortage of experts who think he’ll reach amazing heights, such as NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, who had this to say in his scouting report on Davis:

"Touchdown juggernaut who was a four-year model of production and consistency in college. Davis has the route-running and ball skills to become a starter in the league, but it is his competitiveness and production in the red-zone that should make him a good one."

Now that Davis is under contract (almost) in time for training camp, it’s officially time for Titans fans to get excited.
