20. Golden State Warriors

To be fair with this one, the Golden State Warriors are an incredible team when it comes to the NBA Draft. However, as skilled as you are, continued success tends to be perceived as luck, and they find their way onto the list for that reason.

The Warriors have hit the basketball jackpot in the NBA Draft over the last eight years, and built themselves up a dynasty almost solely based on the moves they made with their scouting and drafting. They landed Steph Curry in the 2009 Draft with the seventh overall pick, but lucked out in players like Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio all being taken before him.

They added to their impressive draft resume by picking Klay Thompson with the 11th pick in 2011 to form the Splash Brothers, Harrison Barnes seventh overall in 2012 and then Draymond Green 35th overall in 2012 to wrap it all up. They build up an incredible roster, and eventually saw themselves win the NBA Finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015.

As if that wasn’t enough, however, they decided to add more to their lineup, and this is where things get lucky. They somehow convinced Kevin Durant to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder to join forces with the Warriors, and truly won the lottery with the signing, which led them to another title over the Cavaliers in 2017 just one year after losing to Cleveland in the 2016 Finals.

Don’t get me wrong, you have to give all of the props in the world to the Warriors for their drafting abilities, but they did need some good fortune to kick in to land an MVP-caliber player like Durant, and that hinders their ability to say they really earned everything they’ve done the last three years.
