18. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have turned into a perennial threat in the NFL, and have been one of the best teams year in and year out in the NFC ever since the infamous game against the New England Patriots where Richard Sherman’s legend was born.

The team had an unfortunate loss in Super Bowl XL against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and many view that loss as one where the referees made the mistakes, rather than the Seahawks themselves. However, they got some luck back on their side about 10 years later, and haven’t looked back ever since.

The Seahawks hit the jackpot with their drafting in the early part of the 2010’s, landing Sherman in the fifth round in 2011, Russell Wilson in the third round in 2012, Kam Chancellor in the fifth round in 2010 and plenty of other complete thefts in their drafting history.

Call it skill, call it luck, whatever you want. But, it’s tough to be that good at finding gems in the rough late in drafts without luck being involved.

With that roster, they’ve also had some luck on the field, especially in their Super Bowl XLVIII. In that game, they found themselves up against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, and lucked up big time when Manning and his center messed up communication on the team’s first snap, and the ball launched behind Manning for a safety.

From that moment on, they sailed, but it would’ve been interesting to see the two teams battle with level heads, rather than the Broncos scurrying to make up for their mistake and getting blown out in the process.

The team almost had another stroke of luck with Jermaine Kearse’s crazy catch in Super Bowl XLIX, but a poor play-call at the goal line balanced it all out, so we can’t knock them there. However, the franchise has been incredibly lucky in this decade, and still have the potential to add to their resume soon.
