Adrian Beltre collects hit No. 3,000 (Video)

Adrian Beltre has become the latest player to record 3,000 hits. The Rangers third baseman appears to be a lock to head to the Hall of Fame.

Adrian Beltre has become the 31st player in MLB history to record 3,000 hits. Beltre reached the milestone with a rocket double off of Orioles pitcher Wade Miley. Interestingly enough, Beltre is now the first Dominican born player to ever reach the 3,000-hit barrier. The hit comes just minutes after Ivan Rodriguez finished off his hall of fame speech as Rangers fans rejoice everywhere.

Beltre is now one hit shy of passing Roberto Clemente for No. 30 on the All-Time hit list.

Beltre, 38, is one of the best third basemen to ever play the game. Prior to the game, Beltre came in with a career .286 average, .339 o- base percentage and 454 home runs. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he can reach 500 home runs if he continues to keep playing. Beltre has suited up for the Dodgers, Mariners, Red Sox, and Rangers during his 20-year career. The four-time All-Star is also one of the best defensive players ever, recording a defensive WAR of 27.6.

On the other hand, the Rangers aren’t doing so hot. They came into today in fourth place in the AL West sitting 18 games out of first place behind the Houston Astros. Starting pitcher Yu Darvish and catcher Jonathan Lucroy are available on the trade market.

Beltre is under contract next season with the Rangers for $18 million but could potentially be a trade piece if Texas decides to really sell. There really hasn’t been a player in recent memory that has aged as well as Beltre as he is hitting .310 on the season at age 38.
