Report: Colin Kaepernick signing with Ravens a ‘very real possibility’
Colin Kaepernick remains without a job but the Baltimore Ravens are reportedly a very real possibility to sign the free agent quarterback.
The Baltimore Ravens are concerned about the health of starting quarterback Joe Flacco who is dealing with a back injury that could threaten his availability for the start of the NFL regular season. Initial speculation surrounded around free agent Colin Kaepernick about whether he could be an option to earn a spot on the roster seemed to die down after the team signed former Indoor Football League quarterback David Olson, however, Jeff Zrbiech of the Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens remain interested, and NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reports, it’s a very real possibility the two agree to a deal.
Ravens president Dick Cass said Kaepernick wants to play and the Ravens have had direct discussions. But there remain hurdles to clear and Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti says he has reached out to current and former players to gauge their opinion on the situation.

Bisciotti said he’s spoken with Ray Lewis and he’s been assured Kaepernick won’t have any more protests during the national anthem. Bisciotti wasn’t a fan of Kaepernick taking a knee during some games last year to protest violence against African-Americans and social injustices. This is the reason he has not already been signed to an NFL team. There are no other (valid) reasons.

The Ravens do have other holes to fill on the roster with limited salary cap space available in part because Flacco is the highest-paid player in the NFL this year, but if concerns about Flacco’s back are real, the Ravens would be wise to sign Kaepernick.

After beginning the season as the No. 2 quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick regained his starting job and finished the season completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards. He threw16 touchdowns to only four interceptions and picked up 468 yards on the ground.
