Blake Bortles had an awful day at practice throwing five interceptions. Head coach Doug Marrone is beyond concerned.

If you were hoping for a different Blake Bortles in 2017, well, think again. The Jaguars are under a new regime as Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone have taken the reigns in Jacksonville. Bortles had a chance to impress his new peers, but obviously, that didn’t go according to plan. Bortles threw five interceptions to the Jaguars defense in practice in a head scratching performance.

Michael DiRocco of ESPN wrote that Telvin Smith, Tyler Patmon, Josh McNary, and Tashaun Gipson were the players to intercept him. Smith returned his for a touchdown while Patmon picked off Bortles on two separate occasions.

Head coach Doug Marrone had the following on Bortles poor showing in practice:

"“I think anytime someone doesn’t perform to what you want to do, you’re concerned about it,” Marrone said via ESPN. “He’s not the only one that’s out there. There’s some good things.“We’re going to look at it. We’re going to look at those plays. If there’s any struggle or things we don’t like, then obviously we’re going to be smart enough to throw that crap out.”"

The new look Jaguars will feature a heavy ground and pound attack after the team selected Leonard Fournette in the first round. Coughlin’s tough approach and Marrone being an offensive line guru, made Fournette a logical pick. With the Jaguars being a run first team, they really just need Bortles to be a game manager. So far, it doesn’t appear that Bortles is the guy long term.

Of course, there’s no need to panic over a training camp practice. Then again, Bortles hasn’t shown much ability on the field during the regular season either. Since he entered the league in 2014, Bortles has the most interceptions in the NFL with 63.
