Blake Griffin wants to do away with championships
Blake Griffin responds to Daryl Morey wanting to get rid of individual awards in the best way possible.
If you thought the Russell Westbrook-James Harden MVP debate was over, think again.
In an interview with The Crossover, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey questioned the voting process and wondered if the league would be better off without awards.
"“I don’t know if this is a good process,” Morey told The Crossover. “The ones that are decided by players or executives or media, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I honestly don’t think there’s a good process. You could argue for eliminating the awards altogether. I don’t really see a good way to do it that doesn’t have major issues. I like clean answers. If there’s not going to be a set criteria and there’s going to be issues with how it’s structured, for me it might be better to not have it.”"
I wonder if Morey would feel the same way had Harden won over Westbrook. Probably not.
The root of Morey’s complaint comes down to voters valuing Westbrook’s numbers over Harden’s winning when, in 2015, voters valued Steph Curry’s winning over Harden’s numbers.
"“I didn’t like how a different MVP criteria was used this year, compared to the last 55 years, to fit more of a marketing slogan. People thought a different criteria for selecting the MVP this year was the way to go.”"
Morey says he’s moved on and is now focused on winning. But hero of the people Blake Griffin wonders if anyone should win anything.
Blake might be on to something. This would certainly eliminate complaints about MVP voting, teams loading up with stars, LeBron James ruining the East, and the Golden State Warriors ruining the league.

It’s also possible that Blake is returning Morey’s MVP salt with a little salt of his own over the Chris Paul trade. Either way, this round goes to Blake.
