J.R. Smith didn’t take kindly to Tracy McGrady’s comments on how anyone can win a championship.
We have a mild beef between new Hall of Fame inductee Tracy McGrady and Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith.
Over the weekend, McGrady delivered some gems at the Hall of Fame’s 60 Days of Program.
However, his remarks speech didn’t sit well with Smith.
"“Social media can give a lot of people voices these days, and the first thing they say is ‘No rings, no rings,'” McGrady said. “You have to have a great team and some luck to get a ring, right? Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with that. But I go back at them with this: Anybody can win a championship. Everybody can’t get in the Hall of Fame.”"
Once Smith caught wind of McGrady’s comments, the much-maligned shooter took to Twitter.
"This man really said “anyone can win a ring but not everyone can make it to the Hall Of Fame?” Soooo no one else thinks that dumb as hell???"
It doesn’t stop there.
In today’s society, fans and media members alike put tons of stock in rings and for good reason. After all, the ultimate goal should be to win it all, right?
In that same breath, it’s clear to see where McGrady is coming from. To be fair, he never played on a stacked team, and when he had Yao Ming, both players were injury prone. When looking at his resume, it’s difficult to disagree with him being a Hall of Famer.

McGrady was a seven-time All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time scoring champion, and was voted the most improved player in 2001.
Sure, J.R. is an NBA champion, but years from now, no one will be talking about him like they talk about McGrady. Sometimes legacy means more than a singular ring.
