Kenny Omega to defend IWGP U.S. title in United States for first time in October
By Jack Crosby
We now know when and where Kenny Omega will finally defend the new IWGP United States Championship over here in America.
Earlier this month, Kenny Omega made some history when he became the first-ever IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion. However, many wondered when would be the first time Omega defended the newest New Japan Pro Wrestling title over here in the country that it’s named after. We now have an answer to that question.
On Monday, Ring of Honor announced that, as part of their October 15 Global Wars tour show in Chicago, Omega will be defending the title over here on American soil for the first time. An opponent for Omega has not been announced at this time, but Ring of Honor did say in the announcement that we will learn who “The Cleaner” will be facing in the coming weeks.
Omega became the first-ever IWGP United States Champion after coming out victorious in a two-day tournament that took place in Long Beach, California, New Japan’s first trip over to the United States as their worldwide popularity continues to be on the rise. He once again put on some of his signature amazing performances, and capped it all off with a great match in the final of the tournament against Tomohiro Ishii.
As far as predicting the first opponent for Omega and his new title, well, that could go a number of ways. Between the talent pool both Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling have, there could be a pretty big list of guys we’d like to see get in the ring with the leader of the Bullet Club for this historic title defense. Hell, with the way things have been playing out lately in the G1 Climax, let’s get ourselves a little Bullet Club vs. Bullet Club action, with Omega defending his belt against Tama Tonga.

Whomever it does end up being, it’ll likely be a match you don’t want to miss, so let’s hope that it’s streaming somewhere or available on pay-per-view.
