MLB top prospect Moncada carted off field after collision
The majors’ top prospect, Yoan Moncada, was carted off the field after colliding with Willy Garcia.
The future for the Chicago White Sox is promising. After selling off pieces prior to the MLB trade deadline, the team obtained top prospects from other organizations. A similar process brought their top prospect, Yoan Moncada, to the team. The majors’ top prospect was part of the deal that sent Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox last December.
But with youth comes risk. And now two of the promising youths in the White Sox organization are on the bench with injury. All because of a lack of communication while going after a ball in the outfield.
It was definitely a scary scene.
After the collision, Moncada was unable to put weight on his knee. It looked as if it were a serious injury, and the trainers carted him off the field. Luckily for the White Sox, results of the x-ray were negative.
Moncada debuted with the White Sox after the All-Star break, playing in the team’s last 11 games. The transition to the majors has proven to be a struggle, as Moncada hit 4-for-36 with a double, triple and home run. The home run came at the expense of Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs.
The other concern for the White Sox is now the health of Willy Garcia. Taking a knee to the side of the head is serious and could lead to a concussion. So far, results just show a head contusion.
It is uncertain if trips the disabled list are in order, but we would not be surprised if Garcia landed on the 10-day list. With a thin roster and a system loaded with prospects, look for the White Sox to call up another player to fill in the gaps and assess what they have.
