Indianapolis Colts: Kamar Aiken, Phillip Dorsett, Donte Moncrief

It has been established that the two best players on the Indianapolis Colts are quarterback Andrew Luck and wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. Luck is still considered an elite NFL quarterback based on the the hype of being a former first overall pick out of Stanford by the Colts in 2012. Leading an also-ran 2014 Colts team to the AFC Championship isn’t too shabby either.

Let’s not overlook what Hilton has done in Colts uniform since being a third-round pick in the same  2012 NFL Draft out of Florida International. Hilton has been to three straight Pro Bowls and led the NFL in receiving in 2016. Big question: Who else can Luck sling the ball to in 2017? Tight end Jack Doyle has been paid handsomely, but Dwayne Allen now plays for the hated New England Patriots.

So who is the Colts’ No. 2 wide receiver? That looks to be a three-man race between Kamar Aiken, Phillip Dorsett and Donte Moncrief. In theory, it should have been Dorsett, but he has done nothing to live up to the hype coming out of Miami a few years ago. Aiken might be the front-runner for the job, but one has to wonder if it was quarterback Joe Flacco that made him look serviceable in Baltimore. Then there’s Moncrief who has lacked staying power in the NFL after a great career for the Ole Miss Rebels in the SEC.

Ideally, more than one of these guys steps up for the Colts in Rob Chudzinski’s offense. The best bet to win the starting job opposite of Hilton might be Aiken on what he did with the Ravens the last two years. Dorsett may finally have a breakout season, but that doesn’t feel overly likely. Maybe Moncrief thrives in the slot and the Colts offense can really be humming this fall?
