Cleveland Browns: Cody Kessler, DeShone Kizer, Brock Osweiler

Just maybe the Cleveland Browns have found their franchise quarterback for once. It’s been a long time since Bernie Kosar was slinging the pigskin on the shores of Lake Erie, but the Browns might have found his long-term replacement in one of these three guys: Cody Kessler, rookie DeShone Kizer and Brock Osweiler.

There is something to like about each one of these signal callers, as well as a bunch of stuff that’s not all that great. Kessler started for the Browns last year, albeit in a 1-15 campaign. He is proven to be an accurate NFL passer that picked up Hue Jackson’s offense quickly. However, his inherent frailty and lack of arm talent will likely sink him playing in a windy AFC North division.

Kizer was taken near the top of the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He has the build and the arm strength to succeed at the next level, playing in a pro-style offense for Brian Kelly in South Bend. However, Notre Dame went 4-8 in Kizer’s last season with the Fighting Irish. He didn’t exactly crush the interview process during the draft, but has shined for much of OTAs and mini camp thus far.

Then there is the albatross that is Osweiler’s contract. He may have a complete inability to change speeds on his fastball under center and seriously held back the Houston Texans offense last year. However, Osweiler has a winning record as an NFL quarterback with the Texans and the Broncos. Then again, he didn’t exactly come away with Pac-12 victories while at Arizona State either. Boy, this Browns quarterback race will be something.
