15 current college football head coaches who’d make great TV analysts
You might be wondering why Gary Patterson would be considered a heck of an analyst and the answer is pretty simple: his experience is vast. Although he’s been a head college football coach for nearly two decades, I’m not talking about the amount of time he’s been in charge, but rather the amount of places he’s been.
No, I’m not talking about the amount of programs he’s coached, because he’s only ever been in charge at TCU, but instead the amount of conferences he’s been through.
The Horned Frogs have bounced around from small to major conferences over the past 15 years like no other school. In fact, TCU went from the WAC in 2000 to Conference-USA for the next four years and then Mountain West Conference from 2005-11 and now it’s in the Big 12. How many coaches can say they’ve game-planned for just about every type of opponent?
Not only has Patterson been at the lower levels and worked his way up to a Power Five conference with the same program, but he’s also had success at each conference stop. He won 10-plus games twice in four years in Conference-USA, six in the Mountain West and now two times in the Big 12.
Patterson is a walking success story.
