15 current college football head coaches who’d make great TV analysts
Like Gary Patterson, Chris Petersen has gone from rags to riches in the college football landscape. He was once a lowly wide receivers coach for UC Davis before moving his way up the ladder. He became the offensive coordinator for Boise State in 2001-05 and put the Broncos on the map.
Boise State was far from a college football power when he took over in 2006 as the head coach, but he did one of the most incredible jobs in recent memory, turning the Broncos into everyone’s favorite cinderella team.
In fact, he helped lead Boise State to a 13-0 record in his first season with the program, earning a trip to the Fiesta Bowl against powerhouse Oklahoma. It looked to be a major mismatch between a Power Five program and a WAC school, but the Broncos held their own. In fact, they won on some miraculous plays, including the game-winning ‘Statue of Liberty’ on a two-point conversion.
Petersen went 92-12 in eight seasons as Boise State’s head coach and showed loyalty by turning down head coaching offers from power conferences. He then received an offer he couldn’t refuse from Washington in 2014 and has been there ever since, leading the Huskies to the playoff in 2016.
This guy has all the knowledge you could ever want from a college coach as an analyst.
