Share the burden of running a farm with your friends by having them work for you.

After a long time of silence, developers of Stardew Valley have finally shared an update on where they are with bringing online multiplayer mechanics to their wildly popular farming simulator.

In a blog post on the game’s website, details about how multiplayer would fit into the game were revealed. You will have the option of asking carpenter Robin to build up to three cabins on your farm. With each cabin will come the ability to have one of your friends join you on your farm as a farmhand.

Farmhands will have complete autonomy as to what they do on the farm and with their day. Each player will also have their own independent inventory. The main player will, however, have control over when each day ends and when all players attend and leave festivals.

Stardew Valley developers have also confirmed that players will be able to marry each other in multiplayer mode, a mechanic that players have heavily requested. They aren’t sure exactly what the wooing process will look like for this, but it is something they are working on. And if you aren’t into the idea of marrying your friends, even if it is in a game, don’t worry. You and any friends on your farm are still free to date and marry the NPCs in the game.

Multiplayer capabilities will be released as a closed beta on Steam toward the end of the year. The official release on PC is slated to come in early 2018, with console support following at a later undisclosed date. As was previously announced, the Nintendo Switch will be the first console to get multiplayer.
