Quincy Enunwa was expected to be a huge contributor to the Jets, but he suffered a neck injury during training camp and his status is up in the air.

The New York Jets and their fans didn’t have very much to look forward to this season. GM Mike Maccagnan is almost openly tanking, shedding all their big contracts and building around a young core. The Jets don’t have a franchise quarterback or very many skill-position players that stand out.

One of the few names that the Jets wanted to see grow and evolve is WR Quincy Enunwa. The past season with the Jets, Enunwa caught 58 passes for 857 yards, including four touchdowns. The departures of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker meant Enunwa would have a bigger role in the offense, but that’s now up in the air with his latest injury.

During 7-on-7 drills during practice, Enunwa fell and suffered a neck injury — similar to the one that sidelined the Jets’ WR during minicamp in June. His status after the injury is unknown, as further evaluation hasn’t been completed.

Here is the full reaction from Jets’ head coach Todd Bowles on Enunwa’s neck injury:

"Something went wrong. We’ll see what happens first. If we have to lose him, we’ll adjust from there. But we got young guys coming on. So we’ll see what the results are first and we’ll go from there."

The Jets brought in Bruce Ellington off the waivers, but he failed his physical, so New York had to waive him as well. Hopefully the injury isn’t serious for Enunwa, as the Jets have a very young wide receiver room.

There are a lot of question marks for New York across the board, but Enunwa was supposed to be one of their positives. Let’s see if his neck injury isn’t recurring and the Jets’ WR can hit the field soon.
