14. Everton

Everton should be able to do better than this. They’re the first of the “big” clubs to be ranked thus far, and deservedly this low. Neither of the two kits the club have announced are awful, just ever so mediocre.

The home kit is blue with some darker blue on the sleeves and armpit area. Looking at them from afar, one might not be able to tell that there is anything but one shade of blue throughout the entire top. Alas, there is a subtle shade change near the shoulder area and a dark, shadowy blue under the armpit that makes it look like every player wearing the shirt has massive pit-stains.

Everton also changed shirt sponsors, which barely registers on the ranking. Just about every time I see the new sponsor, SportPesa, I read it as SportPeas, which makes it seem far less cool, although I would like to know what a SportPea is. I don’t have that inclination about SportPesa.

Their away kit is even less appealing. The club decided to go with a prominently light grey top with blue accents on the shoulders. That would be fine if they didn’t also put a maze inside of it.

It’s hard to tell at this distance, but the design on the top is filled with disconnecting lines that creates a maze in the background. A closer look makes it more apparent. It all makes the kit look a bit dirty. I’m not completely sure if there is a start and finish to this maze, but my 3-year-old niece would probably love to find out.
