Vince Wilfork announces retirement in epic fashion (Video)
Vince Wilfork announces retirement from the NFL in an epic video via his social media
As NFL fans around the country expected, Vince Wilfork has retired from the NFL. However, there was no customary speech or letter to fans, as Wilfork decided to retire in unique fashion.
Wilfork hung up his cleats for a grill in a video sponsored by Kingsford.
Despite spending just two seasons in Houston, it seems the tailgate capital of the NFL has had quite the impact on the 35-year-old. The video started out as all other tribute videos do; serious, yet bittersweet music, dark scenes and little dialogue. However, the script was quickly flipped as a grill opened up.
Wilfork appeared on screen with a cigar in his mouth, dressed in nothing but overalls and a “RIBS” hat. He began to dance and the camera switched angles as Wilfork stated “No more cleats. I’m moving on to smoke meats, fellas.” The rest of the video comprised of Wilfork smoking both meat and a cigar while dancing. As the video came to a close, the 325-pound Wilfork (still wearing nothing but overalls), walked off into the sunset in a symbolic ending to his career.

The end of the video gave details to Vince’s farewell tailgate, which will be held in New England on Sep. 7. Wilfork spent 11 of his 13 seasons with the New England Patriots. The other two were spent with the Texans.
The 35-year-old announced, after the conclusion of last season, that retirement was on his mind. His silence in the offseason hinted at a probable retirement, but no one expected the announcement to come in a way like this. After terrorizing opposing offensive lines for 13 seasons, Wilfork wanted to leave his mark on the NFL one last time as a player. On a more serious note, Wilfork will go down as one of the best defensive lineman to play the game.
