Real Madrid face Manchester United at Philip II Arena on Tuesday, August 8. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Real Madrid and Manchester United will line up for the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday. The UEFA Super Cup pits the previous year’s winner of the Champions League and Europa League. The two teams just played in a preseason friendly two weeks ago, with Manchester United winning on penalties.
Real Madrid come into the matchup having lost three of their last four preseason games, the lone win coming against the MLS All-Stars on penalties. Zinedine Zidane will likely have a roster deployed that is somewhat representative of his starting XI, sans Cristiano Ronaldo, who is dealing with off-field issues. The other notable absentee will likely be Gareth Bale, who suffered a sprained ankle in their preseason tour. Their absences give Marco Asensio a chance to build on his excellent preseason.
Manchester United have had an excellent preseason, winning six of their last seven games, and in the process establishing some sort of team continuity. New signing Romelu Lukaku has been able to have a good amount of playing time to get adjusted to his new teammates. His connection with Paul Pogba will be vital this upcoming season. New signing Nemanja Matic’s defensive positions should allow Pogba to play a more advanced role and be more involved with Lukaku.
