We’re less than two weeks away from WWE SummerSlam and the card looks to be set.
The bulk of the work has been done in building the WWE SummerSlam card.
Last week, Shinsuke Nakamura secured his WWE title shot against Jinder Mahal when he defeated John Cena. Daniel Bryan also granted Kevin Owens his United States title rematch against AJ Styles but appointed Shane McMahon as the special guest referee.
Over the weekend, the company officially announced the SmackDown Tag Team title rematch between new champions New Day and The Usos.
With Randy Orton answering Rusev’s challenge, only one major name was missing from SummerSlam: John Cena.
Footage was shown of Money in the Bank briefcase holder Baron Corbin’s failed attack on Cena following last week’s SmackDown. This led to a confrontation between the two men to kick off Tuesday’s edition of the show. After some back-and-forth and “The Lone Wolf” saying he didn’t need to beat the 16-time World champion, out came the SmackDown general manager.
Bryan made Corbin-Cena official for The Biggest Event of the Summer, much to the delight of Super Cena.
That announcement should complete the SmackDown side of the SummerSlam main card. Given that the kick-off show for the Aug. 20 event is two hours long, expect one or two preliminary matches added.
