The College Football Playoff Committee has announced the dates for their top 25 weekly rankings.
While much of the focus is on the NFL preseason, the college football season is right around the corner. The first week of the season kicks off later this month on August 26.
Ahead of a new season, the College Football Playoff Committee has announced the dates of their top 25 weekly rankings. For those unaware, the selection committee of 13 will decide what four teams will make the College Football Playoff at the end of the year.
The four-team playoff was introduced during the 2014 season and was a big shake up from the previous BCS system. Since its inaugural season, it’s proved to be a giant success.
Here is the ranking schedule:
- Tuesday, October 31 – 7-8 p.m. ET
- Tuesday, November 7 – 7-8 p.m. ET
- Tuesday, November 14 – 9-9:30 p.m. ET
- Tuesday, November 21 – 7-8 p.m. ET
- Tuesday, November 28 – 7-7:30 p.m. ET
- Sunday, December 3 (Selection Day) – Noon-4 p.m. ET
The first ranking will be held on Tuesday, October 31 and the final selection Sunday will take place on December 3.
It’s important to note, while the AP and Coaches Poll rank the top 25 teams throughout the entire season, the committee does not start ranking until after Week 9. Those polls do not have any say in the playoff, only the committee does. Of course this hasn’t come with controversy, but that was original the point of expanding to the playoff field of four teams.
After an incredible 2016 season and National Championship Game, this year is looking to follow up on that same excitement. As we’ve already seen from the preseason polls, the top two dogs from last season are right up there again. Alabama comes in as the No.1 team in the country and reigning champs Clemson are at No 5.
