5 dumbest transfer rumors this week: Barry, Bonucci, Asensio
The summer transfer window is upon us and every team’s fans are dreaming of a big signing.
So, Neymar actually did go to PSG. It’s still dumb though. That’s a ridiculous amount of money to spend on one player. It’s hard to see that record being broken anytime soon; the fee is more than double what United paid for Paul Pogba.
Every week, FanSided will round up some of the most pie-in-the-sky gossip. Will it be Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Celtic? Paul Pogba back to Juventus? Ronaldinho out of retirement to play in MLS?
Here are the five dumbest transfer rumors of the week.
1. Leonardo Bonucci back to Juventus
As hilarious as this could potentially be, the rumor here is based on misinformation. Basically, some outlets are reporting that, effectively, Milan’s cheque bounced and they haven’t officially paid Bonucci’s transfer fee to Juve. The Italian bank handling it apparently rejected Milan’s payment, meaning that neither Bonucci nor Lucas Biglia (whom they bought from Lazio) is technically registered yet.
The thing is, Bonucci’s already played for Milan in preseason. In fact, he captained the side against Real Betis. Milan may have struggled a little these past few years, but they surely wouldn’t have bought a player for €40 million without being sure it was financially viable. The suggestion that the transfer could fall through at this stage is pure sensationalism. Bonucci’s contract has already been deposited; the fee will come soon.
Bonucci will play for the Rossoneri this season, without a doubt. He might even be the club’s captain.
