Brighton face Manchester City at Amex Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 12. Here’s all the info you need to watch this opening week Premier League match.
Brighton will be playing their first ever Premier League match, and their first game in the English top-flight in 34 years, on Saturday.
The good news: it’s at home. The Amex is relatively new and recently expanded. It is a nice stadium. Brighton fans will surely pack the stands for this momentous occasion.
The bad news: they have to play Manchester City. So, no easing into the Premier League for Brighton, then.
Man City finished third in the league table last season. Qualifying for the Champions League is always important, but Pep Guardiola and co. will be expecting a better showing domestically in 2017-18.
This first match at Brighton shouldn’t be much more than a glorified tune-up for the title favorites. You can throw a dart at random at their roster and hit a world-class player. They recently signed full-backs Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy to shore up their defense, which was their weakest area last season.
Brighton will surely be riding a giant adrenaline high early on in the match. An opening goal for them would be amazing, but City should handle them quite easily.
