In the final match of the G1 Climax 27 Tournament before the finals for New Japan Pro Wrestling, the two best wrestlers in the world — Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega — will battle it out for the third time this year for the right to face Tetsuya Naito in the finals of the tournament.

The most anticipated match of the G1 Climax 27 Tournament for New Japan Pro Wrestling was unquestionably the third encounter between Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega in the final match for the B Block.

That’s not a slight at the rest of the tournament because there’s been some absolute fantastic matches, but none of them have been able to compare to what Okada and Omega have done in two matches earlier this year. Okada won the first matchup, a 45-minute barnburner that was considered the “Match of the Year” and 2017 was just seven days old. The pairing wrestled to a 60-minute draw in June at NJPW’s Dominion show, which probably topped what they had done in January.

The first match was considered arguably the greatest match ever, so of course, they surpassed the quality of their first match and then some in June. They’re the two best performers in professional wrestling today and there really shouldn’t be any debate about that after what they’ve both done in the first chuck of 2017.

So, the stage is set for their third match in the last block match of the G1 Climax 27 Tournament, with another type of prize on the line: a shot at Tetsuya Naito in the G1 Climax Finals for a main event title shot at Wrestle Kingdom 12.

Could The Cleaner and the first United States Champion in NJPW history finally notch one in the belt over The Rain Maker in what has been the best rivalry in professional wrestling over the past 7+ months? Here’s a look at the highlights from their third matchup.
