West Brom welcome Bournemouth to The Hawthorns on Saturday, August 12. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The wait is over for Premier League fans as the 2017-18 season begins this weekend with West Brom playing host to Bournemouth in their opening day fixture. The Baggies had an impressive season last year as they finished in 10th place. However, Tony Pulis will have been disappointed with the way his side’s season tailed off as they failed to win any of their last nine games.
Pulis will know that his team can break the top 10 and if he manages a successful final third of the season, West Brom could possibly challenge for a European spot. That’s a big ask but not one out of the realm of possibility. Eddie Howe will take charge of Bournemouth for their third consecutive Premier League season, an impressive feat in itself.
Not many promoted clubs survive in England’s top flight so the fact that Bournemouth have made it through two years, while improving, is a testament to Howe as a manager. The Cherries finished ninth last season although they had a ropey period after Christmas. They rode that storm and showed they can hold their own in the Premier League.
This is a really interesting opening day fixture as both sides will fancy their chances of winning it. In their matches last season, the home side won on both occasions and it could be the same this weekend. Bournemouth are certainly a tough side but Tony Pulis knows how to grind out victories. The Welsh manager will know that this is a great first fixture for his team to gain some confidence while picking up three points. The Cherries will create chances, though, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see both teams score.
