PSG fans got the dream debut they wanted out of Neymar, as he was dominant in his first French league game against Guingamp.

He may have fractured his relationship with Barcelona forever, but Neymar finally got what he wanted. In forcing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, he has the chance to be the main man for a team that has Champions League aspirations. By escaping Lionel Messi’s shadow, he has a greater chance of winning the Ballon d’Or. And best of all, he gets to live in Paris.

Neymar’s far from the only star player on PSG. While the front line isn’t as good as the one he had in Barcelona, he forms a fearsome trio alongside Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria. Against Guingamp, Cavani got off the mark first courtesy of a Neymar assist before he repaid the favor. Having that type of chemistry on display can only be a good thing for PSG moving forward:

While it was Neymar’s first game of the season, it wasn’t PSG’s. He had to miss his new team’s first game of the season because the French league didn’t receive his international transfer certificate on time. PSG still won that game handily, demonstrating that they have the necessary depth to compete without him. But with Neymar in the fold, he adds so much to the team that they should win Ligue 1 by a landslide, especially if their closest competitors lose Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona are already feeling the loss of Neymar after putting in a poor display against Real Madrid in the Super Cup. Considering he was the driving force behind their amazing comeback win against PSG, the odds should favor the French side if they were to meet again in the Champions League.
