In just one week, most of the country will be able to view a total solar eclipse. You’ll want to make sure you’re prepared with the proper safety glasses.
A solar eclipse is something that holds a special kind of appeal for many people. It’s something that is a very rare occurrence. While eclipses happen about every 18 months, they are usually not able to be viewed by most of the United States. The Farmer’s Almanac gives us an idea of just how rare it is:
"In terms of the United States, the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse is the first to traverse the country in nearly a century. The last time a total solar eclipse occurred in the Lower 48 was 1979—and that was only visible from a few states in the Pacific Northwest. This 2017 eclipse will cross the country from coast to coast."
Since this isn’t a normal occurrence, many people like myself might not be prepared to witness such an awesome display of nature. Most everyone wants to get a glimpse. However, you’ll need to make sure you have proper glasses to protect your eyes. Just looking at the eclipse unprotected could do serious damage to you.

The NASA website actually provides a list of reputable vendors to purchase viewing glasses. You can choose not go that route. The main thing to know is the glasses must be compliant with ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for such products. A quick Google search or even on Amazon will get you to a spot that makes it very easy to purchase glasses.
The next solar eclipse that will be viewable to large parts of the country is not until 2024. You won’t want to wait another seven years to see an eclipse. Make sure you get your glasses in time and make sure they can protect your eyesight. Most importantly, enjoy this rare sight of nature!
