Everton finally look set to secure the services of Icelandic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea. The reported fee is said to be at $58 million.

Sigurdsson, 27, has been a saving grace for the Swans over the past few seasons. He was arguably one of, if not the most, important players in saving Swansea from relegation last season.

Along with his performances at the club level, he made a name for himself with Iceland at the last European Championships as well. In five matches for Iceland during their historic run he played every minute, scoring one goal and assisting on another.

The impact Sigurdsson has had for Swansea in the Premier League is undeniable. Appearing in all 38 Premier League matches last season, he scored nine goals and added 13 assists to his tally.

Sigurdsson’s nine goals were second only to Fernando Llorente for Swansea. His 13 assists were top in the club, with Jordan Ayew and Luciano Narsingh being the two closest with three each. This showcases his importance to the club, hence why they held out during this transfer saga for such a hefty fee.

Along with having the most assists for Swansea, he was also third in the Premier League. The only two players he trailed in that category were Christian Eriksen (15) and Kevin De Bruyne (18).

Sigurdsson also impressed with his production in multiple other ways. In 2016-17 he took 3.1 shots per 90, a number only seven other players topped during the season. He also showcased his playmaking ability by averaging 2.1 key passes per 90, once again only being topped by a meager eight players.

With the $58 million signing being finalized, Everton will be hoping he brings his creative abilities with him.
