25. Mick Fo … er, Mankind takes a leap of faith, 1997
In the opening match of the night at SummerSlam in 1997, Mankind faced off with Hunter Hearst Helmsley. You know them as Mick Foley and Triple H these days.
Even as Mankind, Foley had a knack for doing the most things that had you yelling “OMG!” throughout his matches. It was his gift to wrestling. Sacrificing his own body for the entertainment of others. Sounds about right, right?
That’s why Mankind being just steps from the floor and a victory in the match, and then climbing back up the cage to do something ridiculous is the definition of Mick Foley.
Mankind couldn’t just win the match. He had to win the match his way. After climbing out of the cage, Foley climbed back up the cage and dropped a huge elbow on Triple H from the top win the match.
Their rivalry was just getting started, being that their best matches came just a couple years later, but it was a nice prelude of what was to come in terms of chaos and madness between the two stars. This was probably the first time you got excited in the Foley-HHH feud, but it certainly wasn’t the last time you yelled “OH MY GOD!” at a match involving Mick Foley and Triple H.
