After his track and field career ended in disappointing fashion, Usain Bolt posted his own x-rays to quiet the haters.

In a series of now-deleted tweets sent from his official account, world-record holder Usain Bolt sent out an image of his own x-rays to confirm to all of the doubters that he suffered a serious injury after pulling up lame in the final of the 4×100 relay at the IAAF World Championships in London last weekend.

Bolt collapsed to the track halfway down the back stretch, ending his career in agonizing fashion. The 2017 World Championships were not the send-off Bolt had expected to wrap up his career. He finished third in the 100 meters, beaten for the first time at a global athletics final since 2007.

Here is the photo that appeared briefly on Twitter. Just doing some quick sleuthing of the image, and it appears the image tweeted was the 15th in a series of scans on his leg. Clearly, something serious is going on with Bolt’s hamstring.

London was a sad ending to Bolt’s historic career. It had been obvious that his raw speed had been in decline for quite some time. His times of 9.58 second for 100 meters and 19.19 seconds for 200 meters set back in 2009 were well out of his current capability, and it seemed as though he had to really force himself through the 2017 campaign.

A Michael Phelps-like comeback for the 2019 World Champs or 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo does not appear to be in the cards for the greatest athlete in track history. Bolt did not contest the 200 meters at the London championships and has already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the sport. Unlike Phelps, he does not seem motivated to show up and collect medals.

It will be some time before another freakishly built sprinter like Bolt comes along to challenge his records. The burden to replace Bolt’s star power now falls on the sport of track and field as a whole. His charisma and personality will be sorely missed by track fans all over the world.
