Take a look at what went down as the NASCAR XFINITY Series visited the Last Great Colosseum for the Food City 300.
We’re getting down to the nitty gritty of the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series season, and what better way to add to the drama than with a night race from Bristol Motor Speedway? That’s exactly what we’ve got with the Food City 300.
With several XFINITY Series regulars looking to secure a victory to lock up their playoff spots — including Elliott Sadler, who’s had a great points year but has yet to visit Victory Lane — they’ll have to deal with several Cup Series stars running for a Bristol win. They include Kyle Busch (winner of Wednesday night’s Truck Series race) and Joey Logano, who start on the front row.
Even more eyes will be on Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is pulling double duty in what could be his final Bristol weekend. A Cup Series win would be much sweeter, but Junior would probably be pretty pleased if he managed an XFINITY win too.

The consensus is that it would take a while for the top groove to come in, but Justin Allgaier made it work right from the start.

Allgaier passed Joey Logano for second, but it was Kyle Busch leading the way for the first 30-plus laps.
While Allgaier was able to get past Busch on the first restart of the race after trouble for David Starr caused a caution, he was only able to hold onto the lead for 16 laps. Once Busch got back in front, he had no problems for the rest of Stage 1.
.@KyleBusch is your Stage 1 winner, but @J_Allgaier has been putting up a fight!

No points, of course, for Busch’s Stage 1 win, but it left him in good shape to try for the Bristol sweep, especially since he led all cars off pit road following pit stops at the end of the stage.
In Stage 2, Daniel Suarez made his presence felt and even took the lead late. He was aided by a pit road speeding penalty to Busch, but the 18 was just too fast, and it flew back up through the field.

Busch took Stage 2 as well, but he quickly found himself the chaser as Elliott Sadler took the early lead in the final stage. Ty Dillon and Daniel Hemric were other drivers who got themselves into the top 5 with less than 50 laps to go.
Would there be any drama? Well, Busch radioed his crew with about 30 to go and said he felt like his car was picking up a vibration.
Or maybe a late race restart because of this …

The race restarted with just eight laps to go, and Busch easily cleared Suarez and got out in front with Sadler in third. In the end, though, it was that guy again, the XFINITY Series career leader in victories.

The victory was Busch’s 91st in the XFINITY Series. He’s claimed he will retire from the secondary circuit once he hits 100 wins, and at the pace he’s going, that might not even take until the end of the decade.
