2017 has brought some weird things to the spotlight in professional and SmackDown Live‘s main event at SummerSlam on Sunday night might be one of the weirdest things you’ll see.
Jinder Mahal, the 50th WWE Champion in the company’s history, defended the title against Shinsuke Nakamura.
Yes, the same Shinsuke Nakamura that became a mega-star in New Japan Pro Wrestling was wrestling Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship on Sunday night. And yes, the same Jinder Mahal that got knocked out Mojo Rawley with an assist from New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski at WrestleMania 33 in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
After Nakamura defeated John Cena in a match that virtually nobody ever saw coming a few weeks prior on an episode of SmackDown Live a few weeks ago, the King of Strong Style earned a shot at Mahal’s title, after The Maharaja was finally able to rid his life of Randy Orton to set up the match for The Biggest Party of the Summer on Sunday.
