5 corporate sponsors who could walk out with Floyd Mayweather

1. Reebok
People deserve second chances, right? If you said yes, then Mayweather deserves a second chance with the brand he blew an endorsement deal with from a few years ago.
In 2009, Mayweather signed a million-dollar shoe deal with Reebok. When an athlete signs a deal like this, the expectation is that they will endorse nothing but the product in anyway possible.
Due to this, wearing other brands may be a potential conflict of interest that could result in the termination of the deal. This was the case with Mayweather as it had been reported that Reebok opted not to renew their contract with the boxing superstar because of his apparent backing for one of the company’s rivals, Nike, on social media.
Walking away from one million dollars may seem like a big deal to most, but not to Mayweather. Although he and the company parted ways in 2010, he still wore their boxing boots in the fights up until his then retirement in 2015.
In the last fight of his career, I can almost guarantee that Mayweather will be sporting Reebok boxing boots on Aug. 26. He has grown comfortable in them and they allow for the fluid movement that has rendered him basically untouchable.
While I don’t know the protocol on extinguished contracts, Reebok should consider reigniting one with Mayweather before he officially retires. No matter how he performs, his alignment with Reebok will forever be a part of his incredible legacy and that is something that will elevate the brand to newfound heights in the combat sports world.
