AL Wild Card Standings

New York Yankees (66-57, .537, +2.5)

Losing two of three games to the Red Sox over the weekend dropped the Yankees five games behind Boston in the AL East, but a four-game, two-stadium sweep over the Mets helped New York stabilize a four-game cushion in the AL Wild Card standings, and a 2.5-game lead over the second-place Angels and Twins.

Gary Sanchez was the offensive star of the week for the Yankees, hitting four home runs and driving in 10 in seven games. Luis Severino allowed just one unearned run in 6.1 innings Thursday to pick up win No. 10 of the season.

Los Angeles Angels (64-60, .516, – GB)

Mike Trout, Luis Valbuena and Kole Calhoun all homered three times for the Angels last week, and the trio tied for the team lead with four RBI. Trout and Valbuena each hit two homers Saturday in a 5-1 win over the Orioles, and Calhoun’s long ball helped spark a 5-4 win in Baltimore Sunday to give Los Angeles a series victory.

Minnesota Twins (63-59, .516, – GB)

After being blown out in the first two games of the week against the Indians, the Twins won four in a row, including a dominant sweep of the Diamondbacks, to claim a tie in the Wild Card race.

Jose Berrios allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings Friday to bounce back following two rough starts, and Byron Buxton, Brian Dozier, Max Kepler and Miguel Sano each homered twice during the week. Joe Mauer led the club with 10 hits in five games.

Kansas City Royals (62-61, .504, 1.5 GB)

Seattle Mariners (63-62, .504, 1.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (61-62, .496, 2.5 GB)

Tampa Bay Rays (61-65, .484, 4 GB)

Baltimore Orioles (60-64, .484, 4 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (59-65, .476, 5 GB)

Detroit Tigers (54-69, .439, 9.5 GB)

Oakland Athletics (54-70, .435, 10 GB)

Chicago White Sox (47-74, .388, 15.5 GB)

Manny Machado hit four home runs –a walk-off grand slam Friday, which was his third homer of the game – with 12 RBI last week for the Orioles. However, by losing two of three in Seattle to begin the week and dropping two of three to the Angels at home over the weekend, Baltimore dropped to four games back in the Wild Card.
