Jim Harbaugh tweeted a video of Grant Newsome running, showing the progress he has made in less than a year.

Last season, Grant Newsome was the starting left tackle for the Michigan Wolverines. He was playing well when suddenly he went down with an injury. In a big game against the Wisconsin Badgers last October, a cornerback went low on Newsome during a running play to the left, hitting him right in his knee, causing Newsome to go down. The hit completely dislocated Newsome’s knee.

The injury required six surgeries, totaling 40 days in the hospital, and Newsome even said that he was very close to having his leg being amputated. The cornerback who delivered the devastating blow, Derrick Tindal, reached out to Newsome on Twitter after the game to see if he was ok.

Newsome clearly missed the rest of the 2016 season, and it has been ruled that he’s miss 2017 as well. 2018, though, seems like a possibility for the tackle, as Jim Harbaugh tweeted this video on Tuesday, showing the progress Newsome has made in just under a year.

Newsome’s knee is now structurally fine again, but it is going to take a lot of rehabilitation to get it back to where it once was and to get it back to the movements he makes while playing football. He could have been running earlier, but there have been complications from this injury, especially with his foot, as it developed after keeping it stationary for weeks while in the hospital bed.

Newsome saw what his head coach tweeted, and made his own response to the video.

While Newsome won’t play a snap in 2017, seeing him back on the field, grinding, working hard, is giving people around Michigan hope that he can return in 2018 with a vengeance, and fully healthy once again.
