The NBA 2K franchise had quite the priceless reaction on Tuesday to the news that Kyrie Irving was traded to the Celtics from the Cavaliers
All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving has wanted away from the Cleveland Cavaliers for most of the summer to this point, and on Tuesday, he was granted his wish. In a move that really came out of nowhere, for the most part, Irving was sent to play for the Eastern Conference rival Boston Celtics, bringing an end to one of the most dramatic sagas of the summer.
This was definitely a “life comes at you fast” moment for a lot of people out there, but maybe no one felt the effects of this more than the people at NBA 2K.
You see, with Irving being one of the more popular players in the league, he was selected as a cover athlete for the newest video game coming out. Hell, they even sent out a tweet earlier this month where they made a specific reference to the Cavaliers uniform he was wearing. Of course, after Tuesday, he will in fact not be wearing a Cavaliers uniform any longer.
It’s a pretty sucky situation for NBA 2K, but really, they took the whole thing in stride.
Hey, really, what more can you say when you’re in this spot? Things like this are always planned well in advance, and chances are at the time the makers of the video game didn’t think things would play out this way. There were even some people who believed that Kyrie would suck it up, get things settled with LeBron and stay in Cleveland for the foreseeable future. Of course, that won’t be happening now.

This trade affected a lot of people, but again, the folks at NBA 2K are really feeling the sting of this one, while being good sports about it in the process.
