New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sprained his ankle in the team’s preseason tilt against the Cleveland Browns Monday night.
If the New York Giants hope to make it back to the NFL Playoffs this season, they better hope Odell Beckham Jr.’s sprained ankle is nothing serious. The star wideout injured his ankle in the team’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns Monday night, and was forced to miss the rest of the game. OBJ is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, so him being out an extended period of time is certain to hurt the Giants.
Trevor Siemian has once again earned the starting job in Denver, beating out Paxton Lynch for the second year in a row. This Summer, Siemian easily beat out Lynch, who was given ever opportunity to start by first-year head coach Vance Joseph. Siemian is just the better quarterback right now, and you have to start wondering whether or not Lynch is a bust.
Staying with the Denver Broncos, it looks like Jamaal Charles is going to get an opportunity to win the starting job. The former Kansas City Chiefs running back figures to play a lot during the team’s third preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, as he tries to show he is fully healthy. Charles has missed most of the last two seasons with knee injuries, so seeing him healthy would be a welcome sign for his new ballclub.
The Pittsburgh Steelers need Le’Veon Bell to finally get to camp, and it appears it is headed that way. A star running back, Bell is going to be needed if the Steelers hope to make a return trip to the AFC Championship Game, a game in which Bell was injured last season. Bell has yet to sign his franchise tender, but all signs point to him being in camp next week, which would be a welcome sign for Steelers fans.
Next: Colts among horrid teams, NFL power rankings and Patrick Mahomes
Finally, the rookie quarterbacks have impressed this preseason, and are knocking on the door of being a starter. Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes II, and DeShone Kizer have all done enough to win the starting job, though some have roadblocks in front of them. Still, this is a solid crop of NFL quarterbacks, which were not viewed as such heading into the 2017 NFL Draft, so the NFL has to be happy with that.
