Liverpool face Hoffenheim at Anfield on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Liverpool return to Anfield for the second leg of their Champions League play-off with a 2-1 lead over Hoffenheim. In the first leg, the Reds benefited from Hoffenheim’s own goal to defeat the Bundesliga side. The two away goals could be the deciding factor, determining which team advances to the Champions League group stage and which team will play in the Europa League.
In the first leg, Liverpool might have been lucky to walk away with a win. Liverpool’s defense was poor, allowing Hoffenheim several chances that the German side could not convert. Jurgen Klopp decided to rest many of his starters against Crystal Palace at the weekend, but the Reds won 1-0. The extra rest should benefit the Reds but they can’t make mistakes at the back. Liverpool will have to deal with a Hoffenheim side that will be desperate to get an away goal.
Hoffenheim started their Bundesliga season with a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen on a deflected goal by Andrej Kramaric. Julian Nagelsmann’s side was unlucky not to beat Bremen by a wider margin, as they had significantly more chances. Nagelsmann opted to rest striker Sandro Wagner against Bremen. Wagner, along with Kramaric, Serge Gnabry and creative midfielder Kerem Demirbay will be driving force in the Hoffenheim attack that will be pressing for an early goal.
