MLB DFS Value Plays DraftKings FanDuel August 23rd
MLB DFS Value Plays DraftKings and FanDuel August 23rd
I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious MLB DFS Value on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.
Tonight’s slate features 13 games, with Minnesota (5.6), Chicago (5.5), Miami (5.4), Houston (5.4), and New York (5.4), holding the best projected team totals. With high priced players available tonight, finding value will be critical to success. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
MLB DFS Values: DraftKings
Matt Carpenter – STL (1B) – $3700
St. Louis will host the Padres again tonight, in a game in which the Cardinals are projected to score 4.9 runs. Yet again, Matt Carpenter is very underpriced on DraftKings, relative to FanDuel. Carpenter will benefit from his spot in the order, first, and the matchup against a right handed pitcher. Carpenter is much better against righties, with a .363 wOBA split and a .220 ISO split.
Yoan Moncada – CWS (2B) – $3200
The White Soxs don’t have the most impressive team total, but second baseman, Yoan Moncada, is too cheap given his spot in the order and matchup against a right handed pitcher. Moncada should be batting second and will benefit from facing the righty, Santana. Moncada has been much better against righties this year, holding a .361 wOBA split (.205 better than when facing a lefty) and a .213 ISO split (.189 better than when facing a lefty). While his recent performances don’t quite reflect it, Moncada has been making solid contact with the ball. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 30 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 9%, and his exit velocity is up 3 MPH.
MLB DFS Values: FanDuel
Howie Kendrick – WAS (OF) – $2800
If Howie Kendrick is leading off tonight, or at least batting second, he’ll be a great bargain play on FanDuel. The Nat’s don’t have the best team total, but Kendrick is way too cheap for a player batting near the top of the order and having the recent success that he’s been having. Kendrick has been on fire in August and his batted ball stats mirror that success. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 55 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 11% and his exit velocity is up 7 MPH.
Jake Lamb – ARI (3B) – $3700
Jake Lamb is in another advantageous spot tonight, facing a right, and extremely underpriced on FanDuel. Arizona is projected to score 5.1 runs and has already seen some positive line movement early in the day. Anytime Arizona is facing a righty, Lamb will be in play. Lamb is much better against right handed pitching, holding a .386 wOBA split and a .271 ISO split.
Gary Sanchez – NYY (C) – $3500
Catcher, Gary Sanchez had a massive night last night, tallying two home runs and 47.40 FanDuel points. Sanchez is much more expensive and DraftKings and is very moderately priced on FanDuel. The Yankee’s are projected to score 5.4 runs tonight, as they’ll face the struggling arm of Jordan Zimmermann and Sanchez should be a main contributor.
