5. Derrick Rose, 78 Overall

The Derrick Rose experience in New York was mostly a train wreck. The Knicks had a season full of off-court drama and on-court disappointment (as usual). At least the Rose-centric drama was entertaining, which we can’t really say about his on-court game anymore.

If one were to glance at Rose’s counting stats from the 2017 campaign they might think he had a decent year. He actually had a detrimental impact on the Knicks in almost every facet of the game last season though. Rose has always been a player that needs the ball in his hands to produce; the problem is that he’s not especially effective with or without the rock now.

Rose can still get to the rim, but he can’t finish over bigger guys or in traffic like he used to. He was never a great setup man and he never demonstrated much of an interest in creating good looks for his teammates last year. He greatly contributed to the stagnation of Kristaps Porzingis’ development on the offensive end of the floor. Moreover he posted a career low in both 3-point attempt and conversion rate (per Basketball-Reference), which gummed up New York’s stagnant offense even further. Rose is even less effective on defense.  He’s a total liability at the point guard spot and consistently gets beat on that end of the floor.

The fact that he signed with Cleveland for the minimum is indicative of how teams view Rose’s value within the league. He’s not a reliable starter anymore. Perhaps he’ll have somewhat of resurgence coming off the bench in Cleveland (although an Irving trade might give him a larger role). Even so, Rose is a low end rotation piece now. That should make him a 75 overall or slightly lower.
