As the 2K franchise continues to unveil player ratings prior to the release of NBA 2K18, let’s take a look at the game’s most underrated players so far.

Perhaps this is just my impression after playing NBA 2K religiously for almost a decade, but the average overall player rating seems to have slowly crept upward over the past few seasons. That trend (if in fact my suspicions are correct) might be a reflection of the league’s ridiculously deep talent pool. My personal opinion however, is that 2K generally overrates most players in the game.

A few days ago I wrote about the most overrated players in NBA 2K18. There were far more candidates suited for that list than the list that will follow below. In that last post I outlined a set of loose tiers in order to give 2K’s overall ratings more specific context. I defined the 90+ overall range as players that are surefire First and Second Team All-NBA competitors. The 85-89 tier includes All-Star competitors and less certain All-NBA guys. The 80-84 range is for fringe All-Stars and solid starters, while the mid-70s to high 70s include low end starters, reliable rotation players and certain specialists.

Using these basic guidelines let’s look at the players that 2K’s rating formula has underrated the most.
