The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly considering voiding the Kyrie Irving trade with the Boston Celtics due to Isaiah Thomas’ injured hip.
The Cavs and Celtics completed a blockbuster deal for the ages just a few days ago, stealing the offeseason spotlight. Well, in a crazy turn of events, they stole the spotlight yet again, by Cleveland potentially voiding the trade. Isaiah Thomas injured his hip during last year’s playoffs, and it was significant enough that he was contemplating having surgery to repair it.
He ultimately decided not to receive the surgery, but that hasn’t exactly let him off the hook.
Thomas underwent a physical with the Cavs on Friday, and the team is reportedly considering voiding the deal and exploring other trades to deal the disgruntled Irving.

Both teams have the right to void a trade if any of the players involved fail a physical. There’s been no official word yet on if Thomas actually failed the physical, but all signs are certainly pointing to that dreaded outcome. This news is certainly a punch to the gut to Celtics fans, especially ones who were burning Thomas’ jersey just a few days ago.

Irving must be disappointed as well, as he was going to be the featured player on a team with championship aspirations this upcoming season. He will almost certainly be dealt again if the trade with Boston ultimately falls through, but not neccesarily to a contender. Few teams possess the assets that the Celtics have to offer, presenting a combination of draft picks and quality players.
We will pass along more information regarding the situation as it comes to fruition. Until then, those Celtics fans may be wanting to dig the ashes of the recently burned jerseys.
