If you thought UFC President Dana White wasn’t going to respond to Oscar De La Hoya’s harsh criticism of Mayweather versus McGregor, you were sadly mistaken.

Prior to the weigh-ins for Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor on Friday, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya sent out a message on his Twitter account expressing exactly how he felt about the spectacle.

In an unusually profane and bombastic manner, De La Hoya dismissed the fight he’s called a “circus” in the past and promoted his own fight under Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Alvarez versus Gennady Golovkin.

Since its creation, the fight between Mayweather and McGregor has constantly gotten under De La Hoya’s skin for many reasons. Whether it be the “disrespecting” of the sport overall or the date of the fight being before Canelo versus Golovkin, De La Hoya was one member of the boxing community who couldn’t find anything good about this fight.

UFC President Dana White begs to differ.

Known for his insane promotional skills, White has been adamant that the fight between Mayweather and McGregor will break records within the world of boxing. So, it would be easy to assume that he didn’t take De La Hoya’s words too kindly once he found out about them.

And he didn’t.

Paired with a screenshot of the tweet De La Hoya mysteriously deleted then posted again, White bashed the former boxer with some extremely personal jabs over his past drug and alcohol addiction.

In 2011, De La Hoya publicly stated that he had a problem and admitted himself into a rehabilitation facility. He unfortunately relapsed, which caused another stint in rehab in 2013.

“WTF?!? Is this guy snorting coke and drinking booze again??!? #OscarDeLaArum,” wrote White on multiple social media accounts.

Later, White did an interview with TMZ sports and unloaded more jabs targeted at De La Hoya and CEO of Top Rank, Bob Arum, who has had his own beef with White long before the fight between Mayweather and McGregor was made (Warning: NSFW language ahead).

“Oscar De La Hoya is full of sh-t up to here. You know what, I still can’t believe he did that,” said White.  “Listen, Bob Arum is the biggest j—–f in this sport by a hundred thousand miles. Now he left Arum and usually everyone will agree that Arum is just an a——. Now De La Hoya, who I’ve known for a long time and I like Oscar, as soon as this fight is made he turns into ‘Oscar De La Arum’ and goes crazy on the fight.”

A response like this is in true Dana White fashion and shouldn’t really surprise anyone. At the end of the day, the man is behind arguably the biggest fight in boxing history so it isn’t shocking that he fires back like this at all the criticism he’s received.

Although there have been naysayers of this boxing match, with De La Hoya and Arum being at the forefront of it all, it will more than likely do very well and could open doors for other super fights in the future.
