Manchester United beat Leicester 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday, Aug. 26. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Manchester United made it three wins out of three in 2017-18, winning 2-0 against Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday thanks to second-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini, both on as substitutes.
United started the game as they left off against Swansea last week, and forced Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel into a series of excellent saves early on. The Red Devils even had the ball in the back of the net in the 18th minute, but Juan Mata’s strike was ruled out for offside.
As the second half wore on, however, Old Trafford became increasingly tense as it seemed United may not get the reward their dominance deserved. They were given a huge break in the 53rd minute, when referee John Oliver awarded a penalty for Danny Simpson’s handball, but Romelu Lukaku’s spot kick was well saved by Schmeichel.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 61st minute, as Rashford tapped in after Leicester failed to clear a Henrikh Mkhitaryan corner. Fellaini doubled the lead in the 82nd minute with another close-range finish. The Belgian may have been in an offside position when he finished, but the goal was well deserved based on United’s dominance overall.
The win takes United onto nine points, making them the only team with a perfect record after three matches. They weren’t as fluid as they had been against Swansea and West Ham, both 4-0 wins, but this was another very comfortable victory for Jose Mourinho’s team.
