There has been plenty of excitement to start the 2017-18 Premier League season. However, Newcastle and West Ham unfortunately haven’t been able to get in on much of that excitement. Both clubs enter match day three still without a point. However, that will change for at least one club as they square off at St. James’ Park on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Newcastle’s journey back into the Premier League most definitely hasn’t been smooth to this point. Not only have they suffered two-straight defeats to open the season, but they’ve also been hit with the injury bug pretty heavily to begin the campaign. This obviously doesn’t bode particularly well for them moving forward — at least in the immediate future.
At the same time, though, West Ham have been dealing with their fair share of injuries and woes as well. Mario Lanzini, however, will be returning from a knee ailment to play in this match. His return could be a big boost for the Hammers as they try and capture and elusive first point in this Premier League season.
With all of this in mind, though, this is really a match that could be pivotal down the line in a relegation battle. Neither Newcastle nor West Ham — even at their best — have much quality to them this season. As such, any points here could prove important to not being sent down.
