STATE COLLEGE, PA - SEPTEMBER 3: Saquon Barkley

The Penn State Nittany Lions should challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff this season, and here is how you can watch the action online.

One of the biggest surprises of the 2016 college football season was the Penn State Nittany Lions, who resurrected the program with a Big Ten title. Heading into 2017, Penn State has not only their star quarterback returning but also arguably the best running back in college football. Saquon Barkley is a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and will be counted on as the workhorse once again in 2017.

On offense, aside from quarterback Trace McSorley and Barkley, the Lions have one of the best tight ends in the conference in Mike Gesicki. Though star wideout Chris Godwin will be a hard man to replace, they do get Saeed Blacknall back, who was suspended towards the end of last season. Joining Blacknall in the receiving corps is DeAndre Thompkins, and DaeSean Hamilton, so there are plenty of weapons for McSorley to throw to this season.

The defensive side of the ball is also loaded with talent, as free safety Marcus Allen may be the best in the conference. He will be joined in the secondary by Grant Haley, who could be an all-conference selection as well. Linebacker Jason Cabinda is the unquestioned leader of a defensive unit that will have to make up for the loss of star cornerback John Reid due to injury this offseason.

This could be a special season in Happy Valley, so make sure you are turning in each week as they look to get to the College Football Playoff. They have some of the best talent the Big Ten has to offer, and Barkley just may finish the year with the Heisman. If they can get past that two-week stretch where they play Michigan and Ohio State, they could go into the Big Ten title game unscathed.
